Woman gang-raped, killed in WB; gang-raped minor attempts suicide in Guj

A middle-aged woman was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in West Bengal while a minor girl in Gujarat was gang-raped which led her to attempt suicide, as a rash of rape cases were reported in the country today in which two village officials were among the arrested.

As the outrage over the death of the 23-year-old gang-rape victim in Delhi continued, there was a spurt in number of reported sexual assault cases in Punjab with many alleged victims coming forward with their complaints.

A man and his son were arrested for allegedly raping his teenaged daughter in Dombivili township of Thane district in Maharashtra while a 15-year-old dalit girl was allegedly raped and held captive for 15 days by three men in Dharauli village in Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

The two village officials were arrested in connection with two rape incidents in Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh.

In the incident at Jagannathpur in West Bengal's North 24-Parganas district, Police said the woman's son, Alafaz Ali, had filed an FIR last night at Barasat police station stating that his mother was gang-raped and murdered and his father was poisoned and seriously injured.
Additional Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Mukherjee said the body of the 45-year old woman was found near a brick kiln last evening bearing sharp wounds on the head.
The incident occured when the woman went to look for her husband, a brick-kiln worker last evening. Six persons allegedly assaulted her, Mukherjee said.
Meanwhile, her husband returned home and went to look for his wife when he heard her cry for help and was in turn assaulted and forcibly made to consume some poisonous substance, he said.
The victim and her husband were rushed to Barasat State General hospital where the woman died
Police arrested one person today and detained eight others for interrogation.
In Gujarat, a minor gang-rape victim allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at her residence today, police said. The 14-year-old girl's condition is critical and she has been put on ventilator, they said.
Police said the minor was kidnapped in a car from Dholka town in Ahmedabad district and raped by two persons on December 6, following which her family members registered FIR on December 14.
"The girl had been complaining to her father of acute stomach pain for the past two days. Unable to bear it any longer, she mixed pesticide with water and drank it early morning today. She was immediately taken to a private hospital in the village before being brought to VS Hospital in city," Dholka police inspector BD Thakkar told reporters.
He said the girl has been put on ventilator and kept in the Trauma Centre. "Her condition is critical because she is physically very weak," Thakkar said.
A search is on to trace the accused duo who are on the run since the incident, the officer said.
A Village Revenue Officer (VRO) of Nandivada in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly raping his colleague, police said.
B Pandu was arrested after a rape case was registered against him last evening, it said.
The victim had joined his office as his assistant around four months back, it added.
According to police, Pandu once offered her a spiked soft drink, following which she fell unconscious. He then took her objectionable pictures and black-mailed her to have physical relationship with him.
The woman lodged a complaint with the police yesterday and a case under sections 376 and 506 of the IPC have been registered against the accused and the investigation is on.
At least five persons were arrested for allegedly raping a tribal woman in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, police said.
"Five people have been booked under section 376(g) (gang rape) by Pakhanjur police station yesterday," Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat told PTI.
The accused include a village sarpanch. According to the woman, she was raped by the accused at Alor village (over 250km from Raipur) on December 23.
Two days later she went to the government hospital in Pakhanjur where the doctors informed the police that a woman, brutally assaulted, had been admitted.
However, the SP said, the medical report of the government hospital was silent on rape. Next day, the victim herself went to a private hospital, where she told the doctors about the rape.

Each Pakistani owes Rs36,800 to outside world )آبے اوے مقروض اتنا معرور نہ ہو، پہلے قرض اتارو

Debts rose 23.5 times in 43 years while rupee depreciated 369pc in 23 years

LAHORE: As Pakistan's total external debt liabilities surged to a whopping $66.243 billion currently, this alarming figure signifies that each of the 180 million Pakistanis is indebted to the tune of $368 or approximately Rs36,800 to the outside world.

This figure of total external debt doesn't, of course, include the ever-rising domestic debt of around Rs12,000 billion and if that figure is included too, each Pakistani shares a burden of approximately Rs70,000 in the public debt, which is a sum of both domestic and foreign debt liability.

This figure was Rs65,144 in March 2012. A March 7, 2012 report appearing in "The News International" had revealed that during the four-year rule of the PPP-led regime, public debt had jumped by Rs6,924 billion till that time.

The report had stated that the country's public debt had stood at Rs4,802 billion in the first 60 years of its independence, but had increased substantially by Rs6,924 billion in just the 48 months till March 2012, reaching a monstrous figure of Rs11,726 billion.

And now another nine months have passed since the publication of this report and it is quite likely that the total public debt figure must have sky-rocketed to around Rs12,000 billion.Overall, Pakistan's foreign debt has registered an upsurge of nearly 120 per cent since June 1999, when the figure of external liabilities was resting at $30.2 billion only.

Research reveals that at the end of December 1969, the external debt of Pakistan had amounted to just $2.7 billion including the liability of Bangladesh, which hence shows that since the last 43 years, country's international debt burden has jumped by 2,354 per cent.

By December 1971, this particular figure had risen to $3.6 billion, of which $0.6 billion was subsequently taken off as these loans pertained to projects visibly located in Bangladesh. Therefore, Pakistan's total external debt was $3 billion by December 1971 or at the time when the East Pakistan tragedy had rocked the country.

This foreign debt figure had then subsequently increased to $6.3 billion in 1977, soon after the late General Ziaul Haq had held the reins of the country.

Updated statistics collected from the website of the State Bank of Pakistan reveal that the rupee-US dollar parity has worsened from Rs51.77 in fiscal 1999-2000 to approximately Rs99 on December 18, 2012 (Tuesday) or the day this story was filed, meaning thereby that the American currency has gone up by over 91 per cent during these last 13 years.

For those interested in a relatively more recent comparison in this context, since 2007-08 or the time period when the Pakistan People's Party had started calling shots in Islamabad, the Pakistani rupee has lost nearly 58 per cent of its value vis-à-vis the dollar till date and the unbridled rot is expected to haunt more as the national economy is visibly in a shambles.

Remember, the rupee-dollar parity had rested at just Rs21.1065 during the July-September period of fiscal 1989-90, which thus means that the rupee has depreciated by over 369 per cent during these last 23 years.

Dubai jails Saudi man for sex with prostitute

London, Dec 25 (IANS) A 32-year-old Saudi tourist has been jailed for one year in Dubai after having sex with a prostitute in a hotel, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
The man, sentenced Monday by the Dubai Court of First Instance, claimed he only hired her for a massage.
The 34-year-old Usbek woman was jailed for three years after admitting to prostitution.
The Saudi tourist said: "I am not guilty. I did not have sex with her. I tried to be sociable when I consumed liquor".
His lawyer said his client invited her to his hotel room after they met at a nightclub.
Sex outside of marriage is illegal in the UAE and people risk prosecution, imprisonment, a fine or deportation if they are found guilty.

China Mobile Communications Corp confirms participation in Pakistan’s third-generation wireless spectrum auction

BEIJING: China Mobile Communications Corp, the parent company of the world's biggest mobile operator by user numbers, has confirmed its participation in an auction of Pakistan's third-generation wireless spectrum.
With Pakistan as an example, CMCC intends to expand its operations to a greater number of emerging markets, according to Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Mobile, in an interview Wednesday with China Daily. "We are also seeking opportunities to become a minority shareholder in telecom carriers in Europe or North America markets. We would like to be strategic investors (in them), which will help us achieve synergies," said Wang. At end June, CMCC had 369.7 billion yuan ($58 billion) in total current assets, including about 113 billion yuan in cash and cash equivalents.
The company's decision to join the auction may help it strengthen its foothold in fast-growing telecom market in South Asia. Pakistan has been only overseas market for China Mobile since it bought Paktel Ltd., for $284 million in 2007. The company was renamed China Mobile Pakistan, or CMPak, and its services were rebranded as "Zong" in 2008.
"If we succeed (in auction), we will provide Pakistani people with 3G services on a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access network, as the spectrums being auctioned are suitable for WCDMA technology," he said. China Mobile's business in Pakistan is performing well.
"More than four years ago, when we bought Paktel, it was on the brink of bankruptcy, but now the company can generate enough cash flow to maintain its operations," Wang said. Zong brand has seen largest net growth in mobile users in Pakistan in the past three years, according to Pakistan Telecommunications Authority. Zong had a user base of 13.2 million by October, rising from less than 1.5 million in 2007.
Early this month, Fan Yunjun, CEO of CMPak Ltd, told website of China Radio International that China Mobile has invested $1.5 billion in Pakistan to date. Wang said one of advantages for China Mobile in overseas business is that its subsidiaries will be able to leverage parent company's economies of scale to reduce costs and maintain competitiveness. For example, China Mobile's procurement plan means that CMPak can buy cheaper equipment than its domestic rivals.
Experience gained from its operations in China and Pakistan will boost company's confidence in stepping into other overseas markets, especially in emerging markets. Other expansion focus is to make investments related to Time Division Long-Term Evolution technology. The company is actively pushing for home-grown 4G TD-LTE technology to be adopted worldwide. "If we find opportunities that will help TD-LTE technology to go global, we will be interested," Wang said.

Philippines OKs divisive contraceptives bill

(AP) -- Philippine legislators passed a landmark bill Monday that would provide government funding for contraceptives and sexuality classes in schools despite strong opposition by the dominant Roman Catholic Church and its followers, some of whom threatened to ask the Supreme Court to block the legislation.
The Senate and the House of Representatives passed different versions of the bill, which languished in Congress for more than a decade as legislators avoided colliding with the influential church. The two versions will have to be reconciled before President Benigno Aquino III has an opportunity to sign the legislation.
In a scene considered unusual just a few years ago, lawmakers openly defied the church's stand during the plenary voting, which was shown live on nationwide TV.
"The Catholic church has steadfastly opposed the (reproductive health) bill for 13 years," said Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, a key proponent. "But I humbly submit this afternoon that there is no force more powerful than an idea whose time has come."
Aquino, who certified the bill as urgent, considers it a major step toward reducing maternal deaths and promoting family planning in the impoverished country, which has one of Asia's fastest-growing populations. Church leaders said in a pastoral letter Sunday that if passed, the bill would put the moral fiber of the nation at risk.
Archbishop Socrates Villegas, vice president of the Philippines' Bishops Conference, said that "the wide and free accessibility of contraceptives will result in the destruction of family life."
"Money for contraceptives can be better used for education and authentic health care," he said, adding that "those who corrupt the minds of children will invoke divine wrath on themselves."
The long delay in the bill's passage has been attributed to politicians' fear of upsetting conservative Catholic bishops, who helped mobilize popular support for the 1986 "people power" revolt that toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos and the 2001 overthrow of another president, Joseph Estrada.
But in a sign of changing times and attitudes, particularly across generations, reformist civil society groups and Aquino threw their weight behind the bill despite the threat of a backlash.
An independent survey in June last year found that 68 percent of respondents agreed that the government should fund all means of family planning. An October survey of 600 teenagers in Manila, the capital, also carried out by the Social Weather Stations institute, found that 87 percent believed the government should provide reproductive health services to the poor.
The United Nations said early this year that the bill would help reduce an alarming number of pregnancy-related deaths, prevent life-threatening abortions and slow the spread of AIDS.
The U.N. Population Fund says 3.4 million pregnancies occur in the Philippines every year. Half are unintended and a third are aborted, often in clandestine, unsafe and unsanitary procedures. The fund says 11 women in the country die of pregnancy-related causes every day. Nearly 70 percent of women use no contraception at all.
Reproductive health programs are patchy and often unavailable to the poor. Some local governments have passed ordinances banning the sale of condoms and their distribution in health clinics.
"Many Filipino women have faced difficulties and sometimes death because of the absence of a comprehensive and consistent reproductive health policy. This law can change that," said Carlos Conde, Asia researcher at New York-based Human Rights Watch.
Former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, who opposes the bill, said pro-church groups were considering asking the Supreme Court to declare the bill unconstitutional. "You cannot legislate anything that is contrary to one's faith," he told reporters.

Uses of Pomegranate

Uses of Pomegranate

File:Pomegranate fruit.jpg

The pomegranate  /ˈpɒmɨɡrænɨt/, Punica granatum, is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub or small tree growing between five and eight meters tall.
Culinary use

Pomegranate fruit, opened

Pomegranate arils

A bowl of ash-e anar, a Persian soup made with pomegranate juice
After opening the pomegranate by scoring it with a knife and breaking it open, the arils (seed casings) are separated from the peel and internal white pulp membranes. Separating the red arils is easier in a bowl of water, because the arils sink and the inedible pulp floats. Freezing the entire fruit also makes it easier to separate. Another very effective way of quickly harvesting the arils is to cut the pomegranate in half, score each half of the exterior rind four to six times, hold the pomegranate half over a bowl and smack the rind with a large spoon. The arils should eject from the pomegranate directly into the bowl, leaving only a dozen or more deeply embedded arils to remove.

The entire seed is consumed raw, though the watery, tasty aril is the desired part. The taste differs depending on the subspecies of pomegranate and its ripeness. The pomegranate juice can be very sweet or sour, but most fruits are moderate in taste, with sour notes from the acidic tannins contained in the aril juice. Pomegranate juice has long been a popular drink in Persian and Indian cuisine, and began to be widely distributed in the United States and Canada in 2002.[21]

Grenadine syrup is thickened and sweetened pomegranate juice used in cocktail mixing. Before tomatoes (a New World fruit) arrived in the Middle East, grenadine was widely used in many Iranian foods, and is still found in traditional recipes such as fesenjān, a thick sauce made from pomegranate juice and ground walnuts, usually spooned over duck or other poultry and rice, and in ash-e anar (pomegranate soup).[22][23]

Wild pomegranate seeds are used as a spice known as anardana (from Persian: anar+dana, pomegranate+seed), most notably in Indian and Pakistani cuisine, but also as a substitute for pomegranate syrup in Persian cuisine. Dried whole arils can often be obtained in ethnic Indian subcontinent markets. These seeds are separated from the flesh, dried for 10–15 days and used as an acidic agent for chutney and curry preparation. Ground anardana is also used, which results in a deeper flavoring in dishes and prevents the seeds from getting stuck in teeth. Seeds of the wild pomegranate variety known as daru from the Himalayas are regarded as quality sources for this spice.

Dried pomegranate arils, found in some natural specialty food markets, still contain the seed and residual aril water, maintaining a natural sweet and tart flavor. Dried arils can be used in several culinary applications, such as trail mix, granola bars, or as a topping for salad, yogurt, or ice cream. Chocolate covered arils, also available in gourmet food stores like Trader Joes, may be added to desserts and baked items.

Making pomegranate juice at a stall in Turkey
In the Caucasus, pomegranate is used mainly as juice.[24] In Azerbaijan a sauce from pomegranate juice (narsharab) is usually served with fish[25] or tika kabab. In Turkey, pomegranate sauce, (Turkish: nar ekşisi) is used as a salad dressing, to marinate meat, or simply to drink straight. Pomegranate seeds are also used in salads and sometimes as garnish for desserts such as güllaç.[26] Pomegranate syrup or molasses is used in muhammara, a roasted red pepper, walnut, and garlic spread popular in Syria and Turkey.[27]

In Greece, pomegranate (Greek: ρόδι, rodi) is used in many recipes, including kollivozoumi, a creamy broth made from boiled wheat, pomegranates and raisins, legume salad with wheat and pomegranate, traditional Middle Eastern lamb kebabs with pomegranate glaze, pomegranate eggplant relish, and avocado-pomegranate dip. Pomegranate is also made into a liqueur and popular fruit confectionery used as ice cream topping or mixed with yogurt or spread as jam on toast. In Cyprus as well as in Greece and among the Greek Orthodox Diaspora, ρόδι is used to make kolliva, a mixture of wheat, pomegranate seeds, sugar, almonds and other seeds served at memorial services.

[edit] In Ayurvedic medicine

Developing fruit
In the Indian subcontinent's ancient Ayurveda system of medicine, the pomegranate (Hindi: अनार) has extensively been used as a source of traditional remedies for thousands of years.[28]

The rind of the fruit and the bark of the pomegranate tree is used as a traditional remedy against diarrhea, dysentery and intestinal parasites.[28] The seeds and juice are considered a tonic for the heart and throat, and classified as a bitter-astringent (pitta or fire) component under the Ayurvedic system, and considered a healthful counterbalance to a diet high in sweet-fatty (kapha or earth) components.[29] The astringent qualities of the flower juice, rind and tree bark are considered valuable for a variety of purposes, such as stopping nose bleeds and gum bleeds, toning skin, (after blending with mustard oil) firming-up sagging breasts and treating hemorrhoids.[30] Pomegranate juice (of specific fruit strains) is also used as eyedrops as it is believed to slow the development of cataracts.[31]

Ayurveda differentiates between pomegranate varieties and employs them for different remedies.[32]

Pomegranate has been used as a contraceptive and abortifacient by means of consuming the seeds, or rind, as well as by using the rind as a vaginal suppository. This practice is recorded in ancient Indian literature, in Medieval sources, and in modern folk medicine.[33]

Pomegranate Black - Saveh

Nutrients and phytochemicals

Pomegranate aril juice provides about 16% of an adult's daily vitamin C requirement per 100 ml serving, and is a good source of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), potassium and natural phenols, such as ellagitannins and flavonoids.[34][35] Pomegranates are listed as high-fiber in some charts of nutritional value. That fiber, however, is entirely contained in the edible seeds which also supply unsaturated oils. People who choose to discard the seeds forfeit nutritional benefits conveyed by the seed fiber, oils and micronutrients.

Phenolic content

The most abundant polyphenols in pomegranate juice are the hydrolyzable tannins called ellagitannins formed when ellagic acid binds with a carbohydrate. Pomegranate ellagitannins, also called punicalagins, are tannins with free-radical scavenging properties in laboratory experiments[36] and with potential human effects.[37] Punicalagins are absorbed into the human body and may have dietary value as antioxidants, but conclusive proof of efficacy in humans has not yet been shown.[38][39] During intestinal metabolism by bacteria, ellagitannins and punicalagins are converted to urolithins which have unknown biological activity in vivo.[40][41] The different punicalagins present in P. granatum are granatin A and B, punicacortein A, B, C and D, 5-O-galloylpunicacortein D, punicafolin, punigluconin, punicalagin, 1-alpha-O-galloylpunicalagin, punicalin and 2-O-galloyl-punicalin.[citation needed] Other phenolics include catechins, gallocatechins, and anthocyanins, such as prodelphinidins, delphinidin, cyanidin, and pelargonidin.[42] The ORAC (antioxidant capacity) of pomegranate juice was measured at 2,860 units per 100 grams.[43] Many food and dietary supplement makers use pomegranate phenolic extracts as ingredients in their products instead of the juice. One of these extracts is ellagic acid, which may become bioavailable only after parent molecule punicalagins are metabolized. However, ingested ellagic acid from pomegranate juice does not accumulate in the blood in significant quantities and is rapidly excreted.[44] Accordingly, ellagic acid from pomegranate juice does not appear to be biologically important in vivo.

In preliminary laboratory research and clinical trials, juice of the pomegranate may be effective in reducing heart disease risk factors, including LDL oxidation, macrophage oxidative status, and foam cell formation.[45][46][47] In an article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2000, researchers detailed an experiment in which healthy adult men and unhealthy mice consumed pomegranate juice daily. After two weeks, the healthy men experienced increased antioxidant levels, which resulted in a ninety percent drop in LDL cholestoral oxidation. In the mice, "oxidation of LDL by peritoneal macrophages was reduced by up to 90% after pomegranate juice consumption...".[48]

In a limited study of hypertensive patients, consumption of pomegranate juice for two weeks was shown to reduce systolic blood pressure by inhibiting serum angiotensin-converting enzyme.[49] Juice consumption may also inhibit viral infections[50] while pomegranate extracts have antibacterial effects against dental plaque.[51]

Despite limited research data, manufacturers and marketers of pomegranate juice have liberally used evolving research results for product promotion, especially for putative antioxidant health benefits. In February 2010, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to one such manufacturer, POM Wonderful, for using published literature to make illegal claims of unproven antioxidant and anti-disease benefits.[52][53][54]

Metabolites of pomegranate juice ellagitannins localize specifically in the prostate gland, colon, and intestinal tissues of mice,[55] leading to clinical studies of pomegranate juice or fruit extracts for efficacy against several diseases.

In 2011, 32 clinical trials were registered with the National Institutes of Health to examine effects of pomegranate extracts or juice consumption on a list of diseases:[56]

prostate cancer
 prostatic hyperplasia
 diabetes
 lymphoma
 rhinovirus infection (completed, July 2008)
 common cold (completed, June, 2007)
 oxidative stress in diabetic hemodialysis
 atherosclerosis
 coronary artery disease
 infant brain injury
 hemodialysis for kidney disease

Are You Suffering from Heart Diseases?

Or have you been advised to undergo Angiography or Bypass?

Please Wait...

Before you undergo Angiography or Bypass treatment, you must try with confidence this remedy. Insha Allah, you will be cured.

On 18th April last year, I had to go to Sahiwaal(Pakistan) from the UK to attend the annual Khatme-e-Nabuwat conference. The day before I suffered acute pain at the place of my heart and thereafter, experienced uncomfort which continued for quite some time. I then met in Pakistan Hazrat Moulana Bashir Ahmed Usmani Sahib and disclosed to him, that when the doctors performed Angiography on me, they advised Bypass as they discovered 3 of my arteries were blocked and given a date to operate after a month.

During this period, a Hakim prescribed the remedy below which I consumed exactly for a month. A day before my bypass operation, I arrived at the Cardiology Hospital in Lahore  (Pakistan) and deposited Pak Rs. 225,000.00 towards expenses for my Bypass surgery. After taking a close look at these results and my previous results, the Doctors then asked me if I took any medication after the previous tests were carried out.

I told them of Hakim Sahebs prescribed remedy. The panel of Doctors, surprised by the results, then informed me that according to the latest reports all 3 arteries were open and functioning normally and that surgery was not required. I was refunded my deposit and told to go home.

Hazrat Moulana Bashir Ahmed Usmani Saheb himself, prepared this medicine for me and also told me of  ingredients and how it is prepared which is as follows:

1 Cup Fresh Lemon Juice

1 Cup Fresh Ginger Juice

1 Cup Fresh Garlic Juice

1 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar

3 Cups Honey

Mix all the juices & vinegar and boil very slowly for about half an hour until about 1 cup of contents evaporate and 3 cups remain.  After it cools down, mix properly with the 3 cups of honey. Fill contents in a clean Jar and take 3 teaspoons on an empty stomach every morning. Insha Allah you will be cured.
